What do you need ?
Driving license;
Identification document;
Tax identification number (NIF);
Medical certificate.
If the driving license was obtained BEFORE January 2, 2013, it must be renewed:
Categories A, B, BE, A1 and B1
At the age of 50, 60, 65, 70 and every two years thereafter, with no age limit
If the driving license was obtained AFTER January 2, 2013, it must be renewed:
Categories AM, A1, A2, A, B1, B and BE
At the age of 30, 40, 50, 60, 65 and 70, and every two years thereafter, with no age limit (exception: when a driving license is obtained between the ages of 25 and 30, drivers are exempt from having to revalidate their license at the age of 30).
Internacional License
Required Documentation:
– Valid driving license;
– 2 original passport photos;
– Valid ID document;
– Taxpayer number.
License Expiry
Required Documentation:
– 2 original passport photos;
– Valid identification document;
– Tax identification number (NIF);
– Driving license;
– Medical certificate.
If you miss the renewal deadline (2 years), you will have to take a practical test!
Exchange of Foreign License
Required Documentation:
– Delivery of the original letter;
– Valid identification document;
– Tax identification number (NIF);
– Medical certificate;
– Authenticity of the driving license (obtained at the Embassy or Consulate);
– Translation of driving license (when necessary).
